Traveling with a newborn |
I'm going to be traveling next week by plane to Canada with Brokk that will be just over 3 weeks. My head is spinning at the logistics of everything I need to bring with me. I did check with the airline and I'm allowed 2 pieces of luggage for me and 2 for Brokk. I have his birth certificate in hand as well. I did read up on the rules for bringing formula on the plane and how to help baby by feeding at departure and landing. I have a sling that he will be traveling in. My mother has purchased a car seat base so I don't need to bother bringing that. I'm bringing the items listed below. I'm looking for any advice or any items that I might have missed that are must haves while traveling with baby.
Car seat
Stroller
Pack and Play
bottle warmer
Formula
Bottles
Diapers and wipes for flight, mom bought some so I dont have to bring that many.
Clothing: PJs, onsies, pants, outfits, bibs, towel, face cloth, socks, sun hats, blankets
Toiletries: Baby soap, lotion, sun screen,
Documents

Honestly it depends on how long you're staying.
Things I wouldn't bring for a trip 2 weeks or less:
Stroller
Pack and Play
Also: Toiletries: Baby soap, lotion, sun screen, I probably wouldn't even bother, just buy some when I get there, not worth the security idiocy, spillage chances, etc.
Sling is the #1 most awesomest thing you can use, which you already know, and when they're that little they can sleep anywhere, don't need to cart around a heavy pack & play, least not in the summer when cold/drafts aren't that big of an issue.
Good luck with the trip, and hope you have a great time!! Maybe our weather will be a bit better here in general and it'll be more enjoyable.

just an idea this is what my sisters do when they fly with their kids. send the stroller and pack n play by ups/fedex so it will arrive there when you do. Saves room for other things. costs a lil more.
with the airlines they have restrictions on liquids being brought on the flight. Baby soap, lotion, sun screen, might be better bought there ??

I was planning on putting those in the the luggage, not carry on. I don't have much money to spare and since the airline said I could have that much checked luggage i'm not worried.
I'm going for a week.

Check to make sure he doesn't need a passport - the rules have changed for flying in/out of Canada.

Are you going with your husband? If not, have him write a letter saying he is allowing you to bring the baby up to Canada. There have been a few incidences of child kidnapping between the two countries and the border guards sometimes ask.
