We started a tradition in our home a few years ago of making a gingerbread house every year.

I thought I would share it with you guys.

My son placed most of the candy on it and he did part of the roofing icing.

(I never claimed to be an artist )

This is the part he did the icing on, check out what he decided to do with the top of the house.

The front door

Back of the house with a Christmas tree.

Shortbread will never meet building code standards.

That turned out great! It looks like a lot of fun, although everyone in my family LOVES gingerbread. The house would never get built.

rice krispy treat house can't built it very big (i think my walls were around 7 inches high...)

i made the walls/roof about 1/2 inch thick. decorated with nerds, runts, chocolate chips, gum drops, and did icing cement mix for the "glue" I used food coloring in the icing so it was more colorful. can also get the multicolored rice krispys (fred flinstone and barney were always fighting over them on TV) for more color and flavor.

*edit* I almost forgot, I got some thin plastic kid eating mats from walmart for $1, wrapped it in wax paper and used that for extra support on the inside of the walls and roof. I cut the pieces smaller than the actual wall by 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

Icing Cement:

2 large egg whites

1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

2 teaspoons water

3 cups sifted powdered sugar

Icing Cement:

Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and water until frothy. Blend in sugar on high speed until stiff, 5 to 10 minutes. Use immediately or cover and use within 8 hours.

Yield: about 1-1/2 cups icing

Put the icing glue on the object and hold the candy to the glue until it sets. This should happen fairly quickly.
