I love 'em. I've been listening to "Soul to squeeze" a lot lately. What's your opinion?

I know it was from a turbulent period for them, but I really like One Hot Minute. Californication was also good, but their last couple of albums haven't done it for me.

I love everything from Blood Sugar Sex Magic and prior to that but, after that one, there hasn't been much that I've liked. They used to be this fun, weird, funky band but now everything that I've heard over the past 10 years or so... isn't fun. Californication was the last CD of theirs I bought - and I own everything else they've put out prior to that - and I found it to be just miserable.

My ear has been tired of them since Californication.

because everything from Californication on has sounded exactly the same. I found Californication slightly refreshing, and everything after repetitive and stale.

A lot of newer fans seem unaware that there is anything prior to Californication. I saw the Peppers during their tour for that CD and it was pretty weird. It seemed that the vast majority of the people were all psyched up during the new material and kind of shrugged off the old stuff (which was in short supply).
If you've never listened to the earlier material, here are some CDs you really should listen to (links to Amazon with audio clips):
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Freaky Styley
Uplift Mofo Party Plan
Mother's Milk
Blood Sugar Sex Magic

I've been a fan for years. I'm not as happy with their newer stuff, but they are still one of my favorite bands. I am also going to see them for the first time soon. I can't wait.

Hopefully they'll play some of the older material with the new stuff when you go. I've seen them a few times - (Mother's Milk/Positive Mental Octopuss tour), BSSM tour and Californication tour. The Mother's Milk tour was definitely the wildest show of theirs I went to.

I never saw them live, last time they came near to where I live concert tickets were in excess of $40, and I just couldn't justify it. Which is funny, considering I paid $100 to see Paul McCartney last year.
