I got an iPod for my birthday in Dec but my daughter has a Sansa and my hubby wants a Zune. What do you guys use and why did you choose it?

I currently use the Sony S2 Sport NW-S205 (2GB). I only use my mp3 player at the gym, so the main features were small size, low weight, and sufficient "feedback" to navigate without looking at the unit. The big drawback of the unit is that Sony's PC software stinks and makes transferring files a pain. I've been looking for a new player to replace it (especially with bigger capacity), but most of the small units that manufacturers produce are budget models (e.g., Sansa Express) which is really disappointing.

using a Sansa 1GB, i like Sansa products, and it was on sale. it's easy to use, but i need a seperate cord for transferring, would be nice to just plug it into the USB but i don't mind.

I use a Zune 30GB. I like it for the amount of storage and the very nice screen for movies (one of these days, I might actually watch a movie on it...). It's also great for sharing pictures with friends as you can store a ton of them.

A big plus for me is that I can rip my CDs to MP3 format at the bitrate I want (256Kbps is my compromise against file size) and it accepts them easily. So, I'm not stuck using a proprietary format for music and, if I decide I want some other brand later that doesn't support WMA or whatever, I'm not stuck with reripping my CDs all over again.

On the other side of the coin, the software for managing files on your PC is a bit flaky:

If you try to sync something to it and don't have enough room, it insists on adding it later when you make room whether you still want to or not (no option to cancel

If you didn't rip from a CD (already have MP3 files), it's a huge hassle to edit the artist information and it won't always do it right anyway

In general, it seems pretty bloated and you'd better have a halfway decent video card

Doesn't always refresh updated files on your Zune even when you drag the updated file to the Zune. You have to delete the file on your Zune first then drag the updated file over

Other minuses:

Extra stuff (like power adaptors and the like) are very expensive. $30 for a power adaptor that doesn't even come with a cord!

If you don't encode movies into WMV format first, you'll be waiting a long time to load them onto the Zune because it converts it to WMV anyway. It might be true of MP3s as well, but I've been using MP3 format for music and it hasn't been an issue.

Overall though, I'm really happy with it and switch between it and my satellite radio receiver at work all day. I have a desktop radio with an input for other stuff where I plug in the Zune and Sirius radio.

If Microsoft comes up with another one this year that has 160GB or more of storage, I'll probably upgrade to a newer model. I would have bought the 80GB model, but I got the 30GB for so cheap ($90) and I never owned a portable MP3 player before so I couldn't resist the 30. If I had known how much I would end up liking it, I probably would have spent the extra money for the 80.

I got an iPod 30GB last year for X-mas... I asked for it because people told me that it was a good product. the first one I had would not hold a charge. the second one overheated everytime I used it. I got a third one that worked, but iTunes got corrupted and I cannot remove it from my computer so I could replace it...

I'm currently using a Creative Zen 8gb and my Girl Friend is using the Ipod Touch 8gb.

I love both machines for different reasons. The sound on the Zen, IMHO, is just better than the Ipod and I haven't had any problems with it, what so evah.

The Touch is a great PDA and is very high on the "wow" and "neato" factor and sound is acceptable. Just wish it had an FM radio.
