I'm havin surgery monday (joy) and I'm trying to cook up some meals/soups etc that I can put in the freezer for my family while I'm recuperating.

I've got pasta sauce done. I've got some garden veggies frozen. I'm going to Pre-chop some veggies and store them as well.

But Idk what else to make to freeze! Can you freeze home-made soups? What about Stir-fry? If I pre-chop Onion, what's the best way to keep that fresh and not go brown? ALso, want to make up some side-dishes, but unsure which ones would keep well.

LOL I"m more nervous about takin care of my family during recuperation than the surg itself!

You can absolutely freeze homemade soups; if they're a 'noodle' variety, don't add the noodles until the soup's being reheated on the stove though - they get all mooshy gross.

I just went throught the same thing myself in Feb. Cassaroles freeze pretty good...lasagna, enchiladas, etc. Soups are great for freezing, but sometimes the cream based soups can separate. Rice dishes freeze well.

I've successfully frozen soups in the past. To save time you can also brown ground beef in advance and freeze it so that you just have to thaw it and use it. You can also grill chicken or bake chicken and then freeze it for use later.

Chili, Lasagna, Beef Stew, Chicken Cacciatore, are all good to freeze. As long as the dish has the same consistancy through out it should re heat in a microwave well.

how did it go at the hospital? Let us know that first and then how your food turned out. Most importantly I hope all is well and your recovering wonderfully.

I'm ok, my hand/wrist hurts pretty bad still. I've got a bruise that starts at my middle finger and ends halfway up my forearm, he said i was being stubborn so he had to go a bit further, But ican tell it's healing up. The day after the surg my ear/head started to hurt. Now I've got an infection in my left ear and it's spread to my lymph nodes. Ouch. I <3 my pain pills, that's all there is to it lol

I made BBQ chicken for sandwichs and that turned out pretty well. I tried to do cheesy broccoli potatoes, and I couldnt get them to warm up w/out burning lol. But they where ok i suppose. The Chickie "sloop" was a hit I've even got some pasta sauce leftover to play with. I think though that the thing that turned out the best was Stir Fry. I made the beef and then just tossed in the veggies before i froze it. Came out perfect when i reheated on the stove.

Hi Silverlady

Now Phaydra Dear, I don't want to have to come up there because I hear you are not following Doctors orders. So listen to your Doctors for a speedy recovery!
