Cere and I New England Clam Chowdered our way down the west coast for part of our honeymoon. There were some tasty ones at some of the restaurants we stopped at.

Manhattan Clam Chowder was tried to be made illegal in Maine

Quote:

New England Clam Chowder

New England clam chowder is a milk or cream based chowder, that is traditionally made with potatoes, onion, bacon or salt pork, flour & clams. Adding tomatoes to clam chowder was shunned, to the point that a 1939 bill making tomatoes in clam chowder illegal was introduced in the Maine legislature.[2] It is occasionally referred to as Boston Clam Chowder in the Midwest.

I'm in the Midwest and I've never heard of it referred to as 'Boston Clam Chowder'

I like both types A LOT, but I prefer NE. That is the 1st kind I have had and still like the best. But I prefer NE in the colder months I guess, and Man in warmer.

New England, but that is where I was born. Tradition must live on.

I make my own though from scratch.

I am Connecticut born and raised, gotta go with New England.

I've had some of the chowders when I vacation in Nantucket and Rhode Island, great memories right there.

Although I do enjoy both types.
