I don't like the sugary lovey-dovey stuff. But in principle, I like the idea behind the show, 'How did that get on my plate'.

See, that's the problem I have with the Food Network now. They already have Unwrapped. Then they started How'd That Get On My Plate with Sunny Anderson. Now Road Trippin' with the Neelys. There's too much of the same stupid crap on this channel.

Same stupid crap with Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels and Giada's Weekend Getaways and Feasting on Asphalt.....*yawn*

I'm tired of these shows. Cook something and teach me how to do it, damnit!!

Well I've decided I like Jamie at Home for info because he talks about growing the food and that's what I'm interested in. Also, I like how he cooks in an outdoor oven and shows how you can cook things without a lot of chopping and detailed prep work. Also, he's basically the one that I could stand to listen to the most. The rest of them are okay, but I have a thing for Jamie sort of like I have a thing for Bear Grylls. But that's a whole different network.

There are a three things I look for in the Food Network:

* cooking shows that teach me new techniques & approaches,

* lessons about food--how it's grown, where it comes from, how it was dealt with in the past,

* nutritional information that relates to the various diets

Unfortunately, this last point is a real void. If there is something 'green on the plate', it's labeled as 'healthy'. I don't need another recipe for lasagna. My mother's recipe will spank Giada's ass sans the low cut shirts or inane anecdotes. What I'm needing is how to limit carbs and/or fats in some of the classic recipes that are served. Screw the live audiences, reality TV, showdowns, or anything involving flair. If I want entertainment, I'll watch the Comedy Channel.

And while we're ditching things, let's drop 'Ace of Cakes'. He's a nice guy & all, but enough already with the cakes.

I like Jamie at Home, too. He shows you how to take everyday, fresh ingredients and make something that looks and sounds incredibly yummy.

While I like the crew of Ace of Cakes, I really don't care for the show because I could NEVER make anything like they do.

For some odd reason, I always liked Emeril Live, but that is the ONLY show I liked with an audience. I detest Paula's Party.

Ellie Krieger is one that I've recently started to record so I can learn new ways to cook things that are more nutritious and healthier. The other day she made mashed potatoes, but she combined the potatoes with cauliflower to bump up the nutritional factor and cut the carbs in half. It was a nifty idea that I want to try one of these days.

I absolutely LOVE Ace of Cakes.

Of course, I am a cake maker, so that's probably why.

I have gotten SO many smashing ideas off of that show!

was it ellie i was watching, also mixed 2 white potatoes cooked like normal for mashed, and then baked 2 sweet, then peeled them and added it at mashing time. im not a giant fan of sweet potatoes, but this mix was actually good.

Huge fan of Paula, but I must agree - as time has gone by, she just seems to become more and more "fake" - a stereotype and nothing else.

And also agree - I much preferred the old style cooking shows - just you and the cook.

The only show left that I really like a lot is Good Eats.
