It's a lot easier when you have some meat.
I forgot to take some out to thaw, and I despise thawing it in the microwave. Backup plan, fish sticks.

soak your meat in some cold water (that's what she said)
.... while it's still packaged of course ... will thaw your meat out quicker without fouling the taste (that is also what she said)

That's how I thaw most of my meat also. Just make sure you rinse your seafood well after thawing it.
If the quality or source of your meat is questionable though you should put the meat in a container and thaw it by letting cold water run over it. Not only is this method more sanitary because the meat will not be sitting in stagnant water, it will also thaw faster under running water. This is the 'by the book' method and the way you *should* do it.
I usually just soak it though because I don't like to 'waste' water; however, you really should change the water every 15-30 minutes (if you're thawing a large amount) to keep it cold and clean.

I never use microwave to thawIt takes less than an hour if you put the meat in a bowl big enough and let the water constantly run in the smallest stream possible. The meat will reach the temperature of the water without the meat simply making the water cold because it's constantly moving out (the cold water)

I'd have used the package in water routine except that it was time to start cooking right when I realized. Kiddo needs to eat on a schedule so he can get to bed at a reasonable time.
