And, why did I not do this sooner? Awesome device, I was worried about the smaller screen than say the kindle DX (Even though it's half the price). But in the end Barnes & Noble's book selection made the decision for me. My only complaint is that the sleep mode always has a picture on it, other than that, amazing device.

Just curious whats the difference between barnes and nobles book selection and the kindle? Kindle has a pretty big selection.

My mother tried the kindle for 30 days, and returned it in favor of the iPad. (Easier for her to read, not so much for me I prefer the e-ink screen, but I digress). When I searched for books on the kindle I seemed to have a harder time finding one which suited me, it may have been something that would not affect anyone else but myself, but I personally seem to find more books which I'm looking for on Barnes and Noble's website than amazon.com.

From a numbers standpoint, from each of the companies respectfully, I believe amazon.com says they have 650,000 or so eBooks, and Barnes and Noble says about 1.1 million.

Again, this is what I noticed from searching both sites, others may not have an issue with it. From a device standpoint, I really liked both. The touchscreen is a nice touch though lol.

Another major factor in propelling the nook over the Amazon for me is that I work for Best Buy, and the nook is carried at Best Buy. So I can now talk about, and sell the nook from a personal standpoint.

Ah I have never really noticed to many books missing from amazon on my kindle. I tried a nook in a store and did not like it for whatever reason prob just cause I was used to the kindle. Getting a kindle 3 here in a few weeks

The more I think about, the more I realize the possible future selling of the product played alot into my decision. If I didn't work somewhere which sold the nook, I probably would have gotten the DX, or 3 simply because I had physically used it before.

So what's new witht the Kindle 3? I haven't heard much about it.

kindle has a better store. don't let bn fool you on that. they might have more books because they offer google books as well, but for buying books that are things people actually want to read, amazon wins hands down. that said, the nook is a far better piece of hardware. i like that it doesn't use a proprietary format like amazon does. the only books i've downloaded that were crappy scanned images of the books were ones from google books, whereas i've bought kindle books from amazon and had them basically be a scanned page saved as an image. thankfully i was able to return it.

Every time I see some poor fool with a Kindle I laugh at their ugly device and it's ridiculous keyboard.

The Kindle 3 is basically a too little too late attempt to steal the better ideas from the other readers and it still falls short in my opinion.

I think the Sony Daily Edition is the first reader to really compete with the Nook but I am still happier with the Nook.

What the heck are you using it for? I still have my first gen kindle and i have never used the keyboard for anything other then buying things from amazon. I bought it with the intent to be a e-reader and I could not be happier. I do not expect it to do anything else. I am going to get the wifi only version of the kindle 3, and expect to be very happy with it. If I wanted something that did a bunch of stuff I would get a tablet.

The big things I look for in a e-reader

1. The screen... kindle 3 new screen is the main reason for my upgrade from the kindle 1... the e-ink screen is much better on the kindle 3.
2. The book selection and ease of managing my library... Kindle has great features for that. Note that I have never tried to get a e-book anywhere but the kindle store
3. The comfort of reading with the item. I loved my kindle 1 for reading.... I expect the same from the kindle 3.

Anyway, I am sure there are a ton of devices out there that do more. Someone should post some of the other e-readers besides nook and kindle maybe I will check those out.

EXACTLY. Half the device is a keyboard and its bloody useless. Such an ugly device.

yeah the kindle keyboard is what turned me off of it and onto the nook initially. i'm crazy happy with my nook. i just wish it had the amazon store because it's cheaper and they seem to get ebooks way faster than bn. of course i rarely buy books atm because i'm reading all the books i own phsyical copies of and refuse to rebuy.
