It isn't that I dislike the shelves so much as I find them superfluous.

I readily acknowledge that for others they are a great thing, but for me they are pointless. I never keep more than a dozen books on the Nook at once and I only keep that many when I am reading a series or in case I finish a book away from home, I want options on what to read next.

I take everything off the Nook and store it on my computer once I read it, I don't like clutter.

I don't hate this update and I wouldn't go around writing poor reviews for it, but for me it added nothing of merit; something I found ironic considering how much they tooted this updates horn.

Page turning is super fast now, and I rather like the new speed. The syncing across devices actually works well now, so that's a bonus for me, and I have yet to mess around with the shelves yet.

I actually did that for a while and realized that it was a lot of extra work for no real reason, other than organization was kind of a pain. The thing holds a crap ton of books and, in my opinion, the only reason to keep books to a minimum is gone now that they've added shelves. If I wanted to I could literally reference books by author, genre, and 1 through 5 stars, or even cover color all at the same time. And, like music collections (but easier since most people don't have 50,000 ebooks), once you have everything you already own shelved, it's easy to keep up with what you add.

If you're programming in assambly textwrapping is a pain, but if you're using any old high-level language, its more or less effortless.

My thought is that it's a design issue.
