e-Ink is the paper-like screen on true eReaders. i.e. Kindle, Nook, Sony Daily Edition etc. Their screen is called electronic ink, and looks almost exactly like printed paper.
iPad's and other tablets I wouldn't really call eReaders, personally, as they are simply downloading an application in order to do it just as your computer or cell phone can.

Ive been having problems deciding between the ipad and kindle lately. I played with the nook for a bit and thought I would like it over the kindle but after seeing the kindle, I like it a lot more. I too didnt like the keyboard at first but found it to be better than the nook and its doenst get in the way as much as I thought it would. I didnt like the rectangle area on the nook. Bothered me.
Ive decided on either the kindle or ipad now. I am a fairly heavy reader, but also am a college student. I am having a hard time deciding which I want more. Ipad would be nice as I can read on it, email, take notes, and browse the web plus more I dont even know about. It is a lcd screen though and have heard complaints about reading outside and in certain lightning situations. Plus its a lot spendier. Kindle on the other hand I like the size, the price and its just for reading. eInk on it is nice as I noticed no glare. Such hard decisions

Not interested in having an electronic reader. I get tired of staring at a computer screen all day at work as it is, definitely don't want my recreational reading to be in the same format.

That's the whole point of eInk. An eInk screen is not the same as an LCD screen and is made for reading.

You obviously haven't looked into e-readers at all.

I read my ebooks on my iphone I know, totally small screen! But I'm short sighted so it's a great size for reading without my glasses and not holding a book to my face

This is gonna look weird, but I swear I was not stalking either of you, just looking at boards.
Anyways hi beib and strali lol
I have a sony e-reader, I LOVE it, my favorite thing I own. I have 200-300 books on it and I can read for 8 hours and not hurt my eyes because it's not back lit at all. It's my baby, I got rid of 5 boxes of books and replaced it with this guy. It was weird at 1st, but now I couldn't imagine holding the pages or cover of a real book. My version is super basic though and I wish my reader came with a dictionary and lookup/find option. I've had it since last christmas btw so definitely put it to the test - read 30 books on it so far at a guess

Well, I was.
Ok, not really. Nardraug mentioned spotting stralicake on another board, so I took a peek - lo and behold, a very relevant topic.
I just picked my wife up a Nook a few days ago, early Christmas present. She loves it. Personally, I don't mind reading off of a bright LCD screen, so I just use my phone.
Gonna pick up an HTC Evo this spring, probably use that since it supports all the major ereaders' apps anyway.
