Some of the ones I had to read for my mythologies of the world class:

Ceremony (Native American)

All 3 of those were pretty good and were modern day myths.

Picked this one up a few years ago The Ultimate Encylopedia of Mythology

A fairly good refrence book, although doesn't always go into a ton of detail, has Greek, Celtic, Norse, Asian, and others

Try Native American mythology. Many hidden meanings and story possibilities there.

Try the Aeneid, loved reading it in Latin class
