Longer version:

Apparently you suck at it if you keep finding so many YA books in your book searches that you feel compelled to post about it on a message board.

Happy now?

Not really, no. The premise does not support your conclusion.

Finding a lot of YA books is a fore drawn conclusion. If you look at the books that are popular, sell well, get rated well, etc. you can not avoid the flood of YA novels; it has nothing to do with my book research skills. Quite the contrary, if I were looking for the best and most popular books and did not find any YA novels I would be genuinely awful (perhaps at this point you should consider your own level of sucking).

I think perhaps your problem here is that your method of searching out new books is small in scope. I like to really get out there and see everything that is available. I suppose if you consider looking at all of your options before making a decision to be poor form then I do, in fact, suck.

IMO that's just too broad. I don't need deep research and foreknowledge of everything that is available before I buy a book. But then, I think it's a pretty good bet that I'm not as picky as you. I don't over-analyze writing style and I don't fret over untidy prose. I just enjoy a good story. There have been a few stinkers that I've read in my life, but for the most part it is really difficult to write a book that I won't enjoy at least a little bit.

Maybe I'm a creature of habit, but going to a book store is more about being around the books than it is about having the ability to search every book in creation. But then, at a Barnes & Noble store you can still search every book in creation in several different ways. But I've been picking out books for over twenty years in the same way, I pick out several that look interesting and read the first few chapters....from a real book...with pages and everything. These days though, I usually just order the book for my nook after reading that first chapter.

While I appreciate the romantic concept of strolling through the shelves looking at the books that has never been a real possibility for me. Between living in Germany, an impatient family and the nearest bookstore being an hour away once I was on my own I have never had the access. That isn't to say that even if I had that access I wouldn't still do my research; I grew up with the internet and I enjoy light research.

I also don't think I am picky. I will read anything a friend suggests to me and I've only ever put two books down without finishing them. I would say I attempt to be discerning; I want to read the best books first and I want to ensure that I don't let anything really good slip past me but if you saw the backlog of stuff I have bought on a whim you wouldn't call me picky.
