I have real trust issues with male authors in urban fantasy. I don't necessarily like how the genre has twisted me, but I find it hard to enjoy male protagonists (perhaps male authors) anymore.
My reading interests have more or less moved entirely in to the realm of interpersonal relationships and character development. Actions sequences bore me to death now, I'm not even really enjoying them in movies that much anymore. I think the female writers really focus on my interests. I tend to be way more interested in a verbal confrontation with the main characters friend than I am interested in the final showdown with the big bad.
I'm really getting disillusioned with Dresden because he has these 20-30 page fight scenes and all I take away from them is annoyance that nothing was accomplished. I remember once where Dresden fought red court flunkies in some building for forty pages in the fights resolution was the status quo, I was so annoyed with that; action in books is just dirt boring to me. The book where Dresden fought that Indian shapeshifter twenty separate times and every fight ended in a stalemate grated on my last nerve.
I bought these books and I will read them once I finish the series I'm working on now, hopefully the author can rekindle my interest in something other than chick lit.

I thought the first book was really good. One of the most entertaining UF novels I've read in a while.
All of the action was well designed and quick; most importantly every fight resulted in dead things as opposed to an endless series of draws.
I also think it had a really positive misogynistic message. All of the women are lying bitches and the man is forced to condescend to them constantly. The ones that aren't killed for being deceitful he rogers.

I didn't like the third book quite as much, but it was still good.
Perhaps the new car sheen has worn off, but I feel like the story is losing some of its cohesion. Instead of a consistent, directed narrative it often feels like an amalgamation of all of the cool ideas the author had.

Finally got around to reading book 3. I'll agree that it wasn't as good as book one, but many series are the same way. Overall I enjoyed all 3 and will continue the series as it comes out.

I read the first book, and I really liked it....was hard to put down. Not very long and fast paced, good characters and quite humorous. My wife likened it to the Dresden series, so I am currently reading the first book in that collection before proceeding to the next Druid book. I highly recommend it though.

i did end up reading these finally. decent series. comes in up there with the other series i like in the urban fantasy genre like cal leandros, the hollows and that sort of thing but still falls far short of dresden files. not surprising though, i havent found anything yet i'd rank even close to the dresden files.

dresden doesn't get like stupid good until the 3rd book. i listened to the first 2 because after trying to read 1 i couldn't. listening to spike narrate 1 and 2 made them do able for me and from then on i plowed through them like a book a day.
