yeah i don't know why anyone wouldn't just pay the extra $40 or whatever it is to not see ads.

Looks like it has a single banner ad at the bottom (not seen while reading) and screen saver advertising (the example looked pretty subtle).
Not sure I think it's worth paying an extra $40 just to hide the ads. I'll be in my ebook most of the time anyway, so wouldn't see the ads much.

This is Cnet's review of the $79 Kindle (no touch or speakers).

Though I'd definitely wait and spend the extra $20 for the Touch version in November.

Look like great products, if you ask me. But I'm waiting for the mass production of the high-tech table that CSI shows uses.

The Ad option is kinda cool. Personally I'd probably pay to not have them, but I know plenty who don't mind.

They're getting down into the range where I might consider paying for one just for the public domain books.

I think $50-60 is about what I'm willing to pay, and I don't care if there are ads or not as long as they don't actually interrupt me while I'm reading.

Amazon is offering more than 5,000 titles, including New York Times bestsellers, that Prime members can borrow. The offer, however, requires you own a Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard or Kindle Fire — you can’t borrow books if you use a Kindle app on another mobile device.

The book and online retail giant seems to be stretching the definition of “borrow” for the new feature since there are no due dates. What you’re getting in effect from Amazon is a free ebook per month. You can, however, only borrow one book at a time.

No due dates! Tempting offer. Really.

If they make it work on my idevices, I would subscribe to prime. I've been thinking about it for a while, and something like this would nudge me over to the "dark side".
