Along the line's of Yos's topic, how many people have you converted to fantasy, or something other than main stream literature? Just about everyone at my old work place reads fantasy now regularly because I continually pushed books I've read onto them. One girl was actually mad at me when I told her how long between books GRRM takes after getting her to start on ASoIaF.

And who converted you, if anyone did? My first fantasy books were the Chronicles of Narnia when I was 11 years old. My 4th grade English teacher made me read them. Best teacher ever.

i gave my mom neverwhere to read because it's sort of a crime mystery and she loves terrible crime mysteries. she admitted to rather enjoying it but hasn't been convinced to read the other gaiman books i have in physical form.

I converted my wife after I pushed A song of ice and fire onto her. I am trying to get her to start reading the First Drizzt book and get her hooked on Salvatore, I already have all his other books so she would be set for at least a year.

I started reading it when I 13 or so, I've read them all. Not saying it's the best, far from it but I have to read all the books in a series once I get started.

Eh, nothing against reading a whole series at all. I've just never thought he was any good. Kind of cliche, unoriginal, and I'm still clueless as to why that whole series got so popular.

I have never converted anyone, I don't like to proselytize with books.

I suppose I have gotten a few people more heavily in to certain genres by giving suggestions they elicited.

You say that like I'm trying to turn Catholics into Baptists instead of merely having a person add a genre to whatever else they read as well. Also, I hardly ever bring up the topic myself, I'm usually asked what I'm reading, then the inevitable "Is it good?" question, which I answer.

I wasn't attempting to criticize, only to supply my preference.

I hate when people ask me what I am reading because I know they will have no frame of reference to process my answer; as a result, I am short and dismissive when asked.
