just with decal on, with it off everything is good

When you get the black screen is it basic Decal, or decal with plugins?

Go check your DirextX and reinstall the 9.0c
You would think this wouldn't cause an issue do to having to need DirextX9.0c to play AC but, it has been known to be an issue with decal in the past just like .NET =/

thanks i will try that, i have xp, think DX 10 an 11 are only for windows 7 or vista

well i deleted direct x, now when i try to reinstall it i get an internal system error, says check Dxerror.log, grrr

found a support forum for direct x, re-wrote the registry binary and string for it, shows up again in dxdiag
