Topic: Am I ready for Hooms?
Me and my mate have been hunting together for a while now in the dires with our pack monkey; we were wondering whether we're ready to take on hooms yet. We're level 38 with 193 att and 263 melee D and can cast war V's.

Do not try to take on any hoom higher than your own level. The devs have totally screwed up with hooms and allowed them to be much more powerful in relation to their level than any of the other mobs. They're worse than Ash Gromies used to be. Also, don't rely on your pack monkey to help you. First whiff of a hoom he'll be off after it and will prolly have his butt handed to him on a plate. Hot tips:
(1) There is a bug in the hoom AI which means if you killed it, it always returns to its place of death. I've killed the same hoom half a dozen times by taking advantage of this bug.
(2) Always ID the hoom's weapon first - if it's a spear, you're safe to attack no matter what its level.

Hey noob, if u can't take hooms at your level your [sic] a f****** gimp. I can tank 10-20 hooms at once and the gimps can only hit me for 1-3. There [sic] magic skills are so usseless [sic] they can never land a spell on me either.

You can easily take hooms at your level, provided you use the right tactics, i.e:
(1) When it attacks, never run after it. Let it come to you. Explain this to your monkey: use words of one syllable, if necessary.
(2) If it uses war spells, sidestep them. Do the same against archers, if you can.
(2) Once you have landed a debuff on it, do not cast the same debuff again. You're just wasting time and mana. And don't cast the same debuffs as your mate.
(3) Cast one life debuff only, then hit it continually with war spells of the same type. Preferably use bludg vuln, imperil, then shock wave, as this will complement your monkey's attacks.
(4) Remember your monkey has no magic abilites - heal it before it dies.
(5) If the hoom is attacking with magic debuffs, make sure you cast the equivalent protects on yourself and your monkey. Take care to protect your monkey against fire and piercing attacks.
(6) Only drain its stamina/health/mana when they're at full value.
(7) If it starts running away due to low health chase it down until you get the kill.
Happy hunting

Topic: Where to hunt
Like many Virindi, I've been hunting on the OP for a while, but I'm getting real tired of how camped it is. Everyone seems to know the bludg vuln/imperil/release monkey routine, and there are nowhere near enough hooms around. Quite often when I'm attacking a hoom some kewl uber dood jumps in and takes the kill. Anyone got any ideas about any non-camped areas to hunt?

How many times do I have to say this? Nobody owns any hooms in AC. If your [sic] not able to hold your own in the OP, then go back to Osteth you gimp. I hunt in Ayan. The place is absolutly [sic] crawling with hooms. Better still, we have our own spy in a local tent pretending to be the local mage - If u ever needed proof of the dumb-ass hoom AI, this is it. Most of the hooms in Ayan are gimps. I dont [sic] know what the devs were doing when they wrote the AI for them. They just stand around the lifestone while you debuff them and blast them with war VI's.

Hey, Serv, don't listen to the Executioner. He's just a leet dude who'll get you killed. I suggest you stick it out in the OP till level 45, then head over to the Hall of Metos, or any other place with golems. There always seem to be plenty of hooms hanging around with golems.
