I remember a critter called something like Dark Inferno I think? If you found him he'd drop a scroll that you could turn in for 3 points of magic D...This has got to be retired by now right?

I think it is still active, however I am not sure if the specific dark inferno that drops it is the same as what used to be. . .

Really now? So you could use that for your last 3 points of Magic D? Like we used to run tesserae and drop the skill for the xp?

Hmm, interesting.

Yup, it's still active. He doesn't always drop a scroll though, so it's hit and miss.

Well worth hunting for those last three points into magic defence in my opinion.

Never bothered with that crap, takes too long to find him. You could always use MobTracker and check out where he is supposed to spawn though.

Here's the wiki link for him.

Yes, they still spawn. They also still spawn in the same location - the Obsidian Plains. The problem with them is that the spawns have been changed so radically since they were introduced that they are even more rare than they were way back when (which was pretty rare). Also, as mentioned, they don't drop all the time. The drop rate is something between 1 in 3 and 1 in 10. I usually find 1 about every 45 minutes or so, so expect the hunt to take a long time. On the up side, you'll get a lot of shadow fragments out of it.

It's something to do if you are really bored I guess.

My husband takes notions to do this on his toons but he has absolutely no patience so, after about five mins, all I can hear is him moaning about the low spawn rate.

Very interesting. I never looked for him but it definitely sounds worth it at the end of your Magic D points.

Hell, there are people who spend more time trying to get the Ulgrim's Recall scroll.
