You don't have to as each is pretty much stand alone but there is a thin over arching storyline and your usual character development and growth. I would suggest getting hold of the old episodes and seeing it from the beginning though if you are going to start watching it.

The first season was only like ten episodes and we're at episode 16 this season so you aren't that far behind really.

Ok, I'm hooked.

After the end of the 5th episode, when Castle had the Beckett murder file pulled, I knew I was going to be into the show for the long run. The characters are great, even the goons that follow Kate around have some decent one-liners. All it's missing is an epic villain, but that's what season finales are for and I'm not that far yet

I can only see this show getting better. Glad they made two seasons and didn't pull another Firefly on us...

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness,
starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the streets,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection
to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
