apparently it's not doing that good in the box office
A production budget of 30 million and a two day gross of 37 million, I doubt the studio is complaining too hard.
Where did you get 37 mill from? What I read said it did roughly 15 million int he first two days, and will do about 20 for the weekend. Also, keep in mind 30 million might not be an accurate budget, probably doesn't account for advertising, and a studio takes home roughly 55% of what a film grosses, after the theater owners get their cut.

You seem to forget that movies are released other places than America.

I do? What about my post indicated that.
nm, I guess you're saying your total included foreign grosses. I didn't think the foreign numbers would be out that quick. Still, I don't know how they're divided up. I do know the studio was hoping for closer to 30 mill domestic, according to reports, so the 20 will be seen as a disappointment. And though foreign box office is important, the domestic numbers are how the studio typically measures success. However Kick-Ass should get strong word of mouth, and could very well play longer than the 20 million indicates... plus it could take off on DVD, etc...

I honestly think this is one that is going to do much better in weeks 2 and 3 than in week 1.
I know out of the 5 of us that went, 3 of us are going to see it again on Tuesday night. I think the word of mouth is going to help boost it quite a bit.
You gotta think, that most people won't go to opening weekend top a show that they are on the fence about. No reason to fight crowds or whatnot for a movie you just aren't that sure about.

I saw it this weekend. I enjoyed it, but would have been ok waiting for the DVD.

Isn't Kick-Ass more of an action/comedy? Judging by the commercials, I can't see it being bloody like Ninja Assassin.
That's what the fiancee thought to, even though I warned her. Turned out more violent than she was expecting. Definitely no where near Ninja Assassin, but there is more gore than she thought would be.
