I think this is what they call "mixed critism"

.
Personally, the movie was poor.
My expectation of "best movie ever" was not present; in fact, I was hoping for that over the top action. We know that movies like these don't have to have some well-thought plot.
However, I didn't really get the action I expected either, especially for the massive amount of well known actors. Ironically, I kind of understand why Jean Claude Van DAMN declined participation.
There was an attempt of bring some reallife drama, if I understood it correctly. Jason Statham (spelling) had that little love game that only ended up as some lousy knight taking the princess away. They could have totally left that out.
There were so many great characters they could have given humorous merc dialogs too.
And there were massive plotholes too. Even other, lesser action movies didn't have such plotholes or truly mindless moments (the plane/transporter scene was jumping the shark) unless it really involved over the top stuff.
A only moment I recall that was funny and cool was when (I forgot his name) baldy afro Dad from "Everybody Hates Chris" / Old Spice ADs

just came walking in with his 12g AutoShotgun going CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!CHOWM!, everybody getting killed (that was okay, they were surprised ^^) and then the whole thing from Steve Austin's point of view. Austin's character was like WTF.
The action scenes, foremost the close combat scenes were okay. I don't get why everything has to be CGI spam nowadays but I guess that's the modern thing after all. The elite force thing was kinda cool when Stallone and Statham pwned that troop of soldiers. Kinda made me want to play Jagged Alliance 2 again xD
What I found weird was that scene where they all were tagging tons of C4s throughout the entire complex of the palast. I know they took down a few guards silently, but ffs, there should have been enough guards to at least notice the new black smoke detectors.
Like "Que Eso, Amigoooo?" ; "

o no se, Hombre" BOOOOOOOMB!
A popcorn flick indeed, but I strongly suggest to what other DVD movies featuring these stars as solo pwntrains. Okay Van Damme wasn't in this movie, but that Universal Soldier movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin as one of the baddy U-Soldier was cool. It had some plot, a lot of gag moments and a lot of EXPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS!
Cheesy and yet, a bit more efficient than Expendables
