I've got a regular phone now with no data and I'm looking into getting a smartphone with a data plan. I'm leaning towards a Droid. Currently I have verizon and will probably stick with them. I don't follow the technology so I wanted to know if there is anything special coming down the road I should wait for. What phones are you guys using?

I have the original Droid and I love it. The Droid 3 is supposedly hitting stores on July 14th. If I were to upgrade, I'd probably get the Droid X2. It's got a bigger screen and there's no physical keyboard (which I never use on my Droid anyways).

Hit up a local store and try them all out and pick whichever you like best, and order that from somewhere

Went from a G1 to a MyTouch recently. I miss the keyboard but other than that one thing the MyTouch kicks all kinds of ass.

EDIT: Totally missed the Verizon thing. I'm pretty sure they all have clones of each other though.

Droid Charge if you are in an LTE Area.

Droid 3 if you want a keyboard.

Now what about the supposed tiered data plans. Is that the way it is going to be for all providers or just some. I'm use to Verizon but don't have a major problem switching. I'm moving to Boston, so I'm not sure about what has the best coverage.

Just stick with Verizon. In heavy metro areas ATT sucks and Sprint's 4g is awful. All providers except sprint, for now, have tiered data.

July 7th vz switches to tiered.

If you are going to upgrade/switch.. do it really soon.

For a carrier, Sprint is cheap and they have unlimited data plans. I haven't had any connection issues with them, in fact they have been a hell of a lot better than AT&T (but that isn't saying much).

For phones, don't go EVO 4G. It's what I have. It's a terrific phone but the battery has way to small of a capacity. You can replace it with something that gives you maybe two more hours of active charge, but you have to put on a larger case which makes the already huge phone look all 2000-like in size.

I'd just suggest any recent Android phone, but play with them all extensively before deciding. And look at the features closely, of course.
