CPU is at 35c idle and 55-57c under load using Prime95.
Graphics Card is at 55c idle ( this particular card seems to average in the 50s for most people at idle ). Havent checked what it is under load.

Once AMDs new chips come out and settle down a bit I might upgrade the CPU and Mobo again ( I am thinking of waiting till next year ).

I can barely hear it running which is great.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but by getting that processor, you automatically bottlenecked your PC. :/

Its like trying to take a well wanted/needed piss and squeezing your penis at the same time.... just saying lol

I strongly disagree. That X4 955 is still a pretty good CPU and I think will easily handle games just fine without being a bottle neck.

Bingo.

No need to break the bank on a top end cpu when (1) I can overclock the 955 to 3.6 effectively making it a 975 if needed and (2) a strong gpu is more important in most games today ( as benchmarks will show ) and (3) I will be upgrading in the future anyway. The mobo and cpu is just something to bridge the gap until I get around to it after the bulldozer chips release.

I have it. It will handle everything just fine. Doesn't change the fact its a bottleneck for that card. Swapping in a Sandybridge i5 for my OC'd Phenom II is night and day in practical application, particularly in MMORPGs, which I primarily play. That is my main frame of reference and those are very CPU intensive. I just dont see the point in doing a mediocre build now and having to double up on the money to buy an FX chip when Bulldozer finally comes out when its only being compared to the current gen Sandy Bridge sets.

Just another reason why I'll never purchase AMD. high temps (both cpu/gpu) and not as good performance wise.


with my i5 2500k(can be OC'd to 4.2ghz with asus's auto OC, pretty lawlz) never goes above 52c(not-OC'd, 4.2-OC hit around 59) and my gtx 460(i'm lost when it comes to comparisons to AMD so I'm assuming your 6950 blows the 460 out of the water)has hit 70cish but the norm is around 63-65 depending on the time of day, gg Texas and your 105f days!

I may have to RMA the HDD ( WD Caviar Black ).. Started grinding last night and for a second I thought someone put on some coffee ( had my headphones on ) but it was the HDD. I have a friend that also had the same HDD and he mentioned that the blacks are more noisy than other HDDs. But to me this was more than just normal thrashing.. It sounded bad to me.

I used WD HDD test and HDD sentinel and both say the drive is fine ( whatever that means at this point ).

Think I will give it a few more days before deciding what to do as I dont have anything on the PC yet other than a few games.

As far as the CPUs temp goes.. I just used the paste that came pre applied. I will get around to putting some AS5 on there sooner or later which should drop the temps a few more Cs.

The video card went from idle of ~55c to 68c ( 60c at 50% fan speed ) so I am going to pick up some MX2 to put on the gpu for sure. Also might look into an after market cooler for both the cpu and gpu ( especially the gpu ).

CPU at 57C under Prime95 is a great temp. I see no reason to pull of the heatsink and change paste for that. Prime95 raises the temp more than gaming or normal usage would. As long as you are under 70C, it's real good.

GPU idle temp really doesn't provide any useful information.

Assuming there isn't a problem with how the heatsink is mounted, I really don't think changing your GPU paste is going to make any difference at all. And it's just a big hassle and you could damage the thermal pads on the memory if you aren't careful. Also the screws on the 6950 heatsink are pretty fragile, if you must, be real careful when screwing the heatsink back on.

If you think it's too loud or hot, you'll probably just need to get an aftermarket cooler for it instead.
