/sigh

Not (and won't be) available in Houston. The city gave a monopoly to Time Warner, now Comcast.

Want it bad!

I'm moving to a house that has FiOS available soon. I would be switching from Cox cable. My problem is I enjoy pretty good speeds (I average 20 Mb down, 10 Mb up). I'm paying like $54 after taxes and fees and all. But Cox service sucks, it goes down all of the time. Or at least it seems that way.

FiOS at 25/25 is $69. I really don't want a contract or TV or phone, but they're only offering it with a one year contract. So I guess this would come out to about $20 more a month than I'm paying now (I am assuming other charges push it to about $74).

So basically I'm looking at a service that is slightly more expensive, but won't fluctuate much in performance, should be on-line a hell of a lot more, and will give me much better upload speeds. Man if it was just like $10 cheaper it would be a no brainer. But at about $240 a year, I think I can live with Cox. Thoughts?

My FiOS goes down once a month at about 4 am for a quick reboot. That's it. The speeds are always as advertised unless you are in wifi.

Cox was way more expensive, which is why the BF finally gave the thumbs up to switch.

Picture quality sucked and constantly broke up.

Internet was pretty decent most of the time, but lately had been slowing down.

No brainer for us.

Your situation - I dunno. I'd probably save the money, but I'm a cheapskate.

Congrats!

My friend just got FiOS installed (he had Comcrap) he said the speed is outstanding. I still don't have it in my neighborhood, I have underground utilities and they said that will be last part done....of course my old house that I moved out of last year, on the otherside of town, can now get it.....I can't wait to get rid of Comcast.

Fios is pretty good. Speed tests clock in at 42/30 Mb/s. BUT... I have downloaded Amnesia at 5-6.5 MB/s (took like 3-4 minutes ), which is > 42Mb/s .

Hmm...

I think I'll go ahead and sign up for FiOS and find some way to offset the increased price elsewhere. Maybe cancel my $18-ish Blockbuster sub.

Funny, the older I get and more money I make, the stingier I get.
