memtest doesnt truely STRESS it. Your VOLTAGES and timings can be slightly off and not show during the test but pop up when the whole system is stressed.
You specifically mentioned the memory. Drop down to half of it and run the system normally and see if the problem persists, then swatch the halves out / in and try it again.
Operating under the impression here that he is setting the timings in the BIOS. I doubt he is. What they default to, what the motherboard determines they should be at,
should be perfectly acceptable. Sounds more likely he simply has a bad DIMM in the batch and a ram dance would've found it.
Yeah they defaulted to the 800 mhz option. My motherboard info says it is compatible up to 800 mhz 5-5-5- timing I think... I originally had 667 in though. The chips I got said they were backwards compatible but they defaulted to 800. I went into bios to see if I could change these settings but it wouldn't let me. Is there a way to force chips to go down to 667 mhz if they default at 800? Not sure if that would have helped any or not. I'm not an expert on that though so I may just be plain stupid I'd admit.
In the end I took them back and got a Razer Nostromo instead lol. Just going to order some chips off crucial or newegg so they are guaranteed to work and try that out. Or I might just get a new i7 and use this one as my backup side pc.
