I think I'll get a Kindle Touch. I had a Kindle 3 for a while and really liked the e-ink display and miss it. So I think it's time to get another e-ink device again. And after some thought I guess I could live with the "Special Offers" ads if it's going to save me $40.
Probably passing on the 7 inch Kindle Fire though. I like 10 inch tablets more. And supposedly Amazon is also working on one for early next year (which rumors suggest could also be a clone of upcoming 10 inch Playbook, haha).

Makes me wonder if I should cancel my HP TouchPad orders. They are still sitting in limbo and this seems like a nice little device.
Well there is a Kindle app on the TouchPad and for $100 or $150 it is still a very amazing for ebooks, websurfing, and watching videos (nice Beats audio speakers... for a tablet anyway).
But if you want to do more... well the app selection is pretty horrible.

Kindle Fire QA at Android Central.
And one of the comments reminded me. Some people are feeling like Google is getting cheated by Amazon because they are using Android, but stripped out all the Google Apps that help Google make money.
Really, does Google need our pity? I think they'll just be okie-dokie despite no Google Apps on this. And considering almost everyone is paying Microsoft licensing fees because of the Google apps and Apple is now claiming some versions of the Google Gallery violate it's patents, it's not surprising Amazon decided to just scrub it clean and use their own apps. This might help them avoid paying Microsoft and getting hunted down by Apple.

if i got the fire, it'd be because it's a better device to root than the nook color is. and i like my nook more than my dad's kindle so i'd never get one of their ereaders. it's funny how much they're scrambling to catch up to what the nook has been doing for a while now though. good times. more competition with each other plz. i want better things for less money and access to more ereader stores on my device.

Kindle Fire looks nice. Maybe this could be my entrance to the tablet-world.

I wonder if RIM is pissed that Amazon is using the very same hardware as their Playbook? Haha.
Either way, seems to be good news for consumers, because now the Playbook is $200 cheaper, price slashed down to $300 for a 16GB model.

It's still $100 more than the Fire though.

an unrooted fire will beat the crap out of a unrooted nook though.
The one thing that makes me balk at the fire is that it doesn't have the android market. I have bought lots of apps over the past 2 years, and I would have to rebuy them on amazon's market if I want them on the fire.

One nice thing about the Amazon market is they offer a pretty good paid app, for free, every day.

I'm going for the touch. The ads suck but from what I've read you should never see one while you are actually reading a book so that's fine I think. Fire sounds kinda cool but unnecessary for me really. Don't know what I'd actually use it for besides reading and would rather have the touch for that.
