Hmmm...you do have a point then.

I check the 2nd card that Dell sent in another machine works fine with Dell's driver and driver directly from nvidia.
Where as the Card is good, works in another machine, does not work in a new DELL machine, comes down to Quatro versus Geforce perhaps.

While on location, the computer would come up in safe mode but would nothing else. We were planning to update to Windows 7 on this machine anyway. So I copied the necessary files over to the replacement machine and arranged to get the machine to my location.
When I got the computer, I checked it for the obvious problems, virus, disk errors, etc. Nothing. Would no longer come up in safe mode. Just displayed the Windows XP logo and eventually goes black and the monitor says "no signal". We run RDP and other remote access software on all our machines. The OS had never finished loading, as the computer was not accessible.
Unplug it, press the power button, move the CMOS jumper to clear, remove the battery, wait 1 hour, replace the battery, move the CMOS jumper to functional, plug in, press the power button. Just want to remove BIOS corruption as a possibility.
Just unplugging the unit, pressing the power button to discharge the capacitors between tests or hardware replacements can hide a Power/ capacitor issue for a time....
This thing went from working, to safe mode only, to logo...suggests different stages of functionality with a degradation happening.

I believe it was DELL that 4 years ago pushed alot of computers and servers in the education markets that had bad capacitors.

I can confirm this. We had an order of 160 GX620's that all had popped caps and dead Powersupplies after 1 year of service.

I've worked on 5400s and now 5500s. I really haven't the slightest idea what could be causing all that. It is certainly not something I've ever come across. Funny thing is, you probably called in to my call center. lol.

This might be a bit silly/obvious, but did you have both screens plugged in, and did you try other monitors?
Just wondering if it switched to the other port once it got to windows, and/or eliminating anything funny with the monitors as a possibility.

I did mention the power supply as a possible issue to one of the techs I spoke with.
RE: Bios information, the original machine was running A02 to start with and I updated that to A09 which made no difference.
The new motherboard came with A06 but still exhibited the same issues. I did not update that machine.
I believe someone asked if the card works in other machines, the answer is yes.
With the card installed the machine never fully boots. The remote access software we use never shows the machine to be online.
Since the machine will not fully load with this card installed its never had the chance to install any drivers for it.

FWIW, I've only seen BIOS updates resolve some memory hiccups and docking station issues. Never seen it fix an issue like this on our systems. That said, still could not tell you wth is going on here.

The case manager on this ticket is Timothy H. if that means anything to you, his badge # is 362445.
What puzzles me is that machine had been working fine, 24x7x365 for the last 18 months or so. Windows XP SP3, Raid 1 on embedded intel raid controller.
It was acting wonky one night so they rebooted it and it never came back.
