A Blackberry server in the UK went down, and that created a backlog which then started off a chain reaction outage through Europe, African, Middle East, then Asia and now the Americas. Something seems wrong when a single server outage can take out the entire global network.
Folks I work with are constantly asking me when will we support iPhones as an alternative to Blackberry for corporate email. So far no one has really wanted to pay for it, but a lot of people are interested. And people majorly freak out when Blackberry goes out. So I think this is pushing out a little closer to at least evaluating adding iPhone support to our corporate email.
Keep screwing up RIM, you are getting me closer and closer to a free iPhone.

We have supported iphones (managed by mobile iron you should check them our ravy) for little over a year now. We still have lots of people that want to stick with their BB's, after today a few of them put in for iphones.
Here's my problem with mobile phones in enterprise. BB phones suck, but the managment in the enterprise world is unmatched. iphones are nice, but they have ZERO enterprise managment, that's why we had to buy a 3rd party solution, and lots of companies dont wnat to do that. If apple would wake up and build enterprise tools for their iphone/ipad they could rock RIM.
Same goes for android.

Pay for what? Exchange 2003 - Exchange 2010 are completely compatible with the iOS devices... Not sure why you wouldn't allow your users to connect. Unless you're not using Exchange for your mail server of course
You can remotely wipe the device from exchange with no issues, so a security risk it's not.
I've supported the iphone since we went to 2003 Exchange.

I work for an company that provides IT support to a health company. The health company deals with a lot of private health information and has many stringent security practices in place, along with a complex email environment. So this would be a project and the company I work is going to charge extra for such a project.

I see no need for a centrally managed server for iPhones other than your Exchange integration and remote wipe features. As well as requiring everyone to use pin numbers, although I admit, a group policy to enforce this would be nice.
What else does a BBM server provide?

Everything you just listed would fit HIPPA compliance, cause I set it up already for a healthcare organzation Part of it, is teaching your users how NOT to violate fking HIPPA.......

I work for State Government IT, and we have to worry not only about HIPAA (Health insurance pain in the ass act...) but dealing with a multitude on Federal guidelines regarding taxation, public safety, emergency management etc.. So yes, we could never right now be a shop for iPhones or Android until some kind of enterprise management system was in place.

There are multiple enterprise management systems available for IOS
JAMF being one of the biggest.
