'Excellent'.

What a slouch. Not even for that price point is it worth buying that thing.

Problem is neither games nor 3DMark make good use of so many cores.
For those into calculations and 3D rendering though, this processor will obviously take the place of the Intel equivalent - it's not only faster, but it's cheaper.

And I'm gonna stick to my Phenom II 940 Black overclocked to 3.5ghz, since I have yet to find a game that it can't run properly and with high settings.

Same here, same proc. AMD still really dropped the ball here, from a consumer standpoint.

Umm, I would wait several reviews before making an assessment.

If true however, it would explain the price drops better.

As an Intel employee who is manufacturing the latest and greatest silicon...this is great news.

Seriously, though, Intel knows AMD isn't down and out for the count. This may be a hiccup or stutter for AMD, but it certainly doesn't mean that we at Intel get to relax.

It's sad that AMD is not going to be able to compete against Intel's i7 series.

But it's not a total disaster for AMD. I would imagine these high end desktop chips account for a tiny percentage of sales anyway. Intel is probably more worried about AMD's APU chips. More and more stuff is taking advantage of graphics acceleration and AMD has a pretty big advantage over Intel when it comes to graphics performance.

Did anybody really think AMD was going to best Intel?

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.

Actually, they will compete. Possibly not for gamers, except for the lower prices (better performance/price ratio for AMD, higher performance for Intel), but for professionals, since the new Bulldozer actually crushes the Intel competition when it comes to pure multithreaded calculation.

Pretty much this. The architecture was designed with PRO applications in mind. The FX consumer line is derived from that, and it really shows.
