Dear Cox High Speed Internet Customer:
We are glad that you are getting the most out of your Cox High Speed Internet Service. However, you recently exceeded your Internet package's monthly data usage amount. The monthly data usage amount for each Cox High Speed Internet package is listed in the Features and Limits of Service located at...
http://ww2.cox.com/aboutus/policies/limitations.cox
The monthly data usage amount combines download and upload usage.
Monthly data usage amounts exist so that we can provide all Cox High Speed Internet customers with a great online experience. Because some customers may not realize that they are using more data than allowed, we are actively notifying customers like you when the amount is exceeded.
If you have further questions regarding this policy or feel that you received this notice in error, you may contact Cox Tier 2 Support at 1-888-978-3250.
We hope you continue to enjoy your Cox High Speed Internet service, keeping in mind the monthly data usage amount for your Internet package.
Thank you for being a Cox High Speed Internet customer.
Sincerely,
Cox Communications

Cox recently just began notifying users for going over their data caps in some states. If you login to your myaccount.cox.net, you should see a Data Usage Meter now. Those in states not having data caps enforced yet probably won't see that Data Usage Meter yet on their account page.
Don't think they are doing anything yet, just letting people know about the cap. Eventually they might try to get you to upgrade to their fastest tier speed with a 500GB cap.

I was just doing some reading and it appears this is cox's attempt to put the squeeze on a dying business model and forcing people in to their cox on demand over priced crap instead of using netflix/streaming services. I don't see any data meter usage feature yet but I read where they have done it in kansas and parts of california. Thanks for the confirmed info.

Ok this makes no sense. I just found the data usage tab and I go from using 25-75gb a month to 260gb in aug and 202gb in september.

Hey, thanks for leaving your wifi open, I've been streaming a lot of porn.
Joking of course, but it's worth figuring out how legit that usage info is.

my wifi is locked and secured. it's a WPA-PSK security type and I have it locked with an 18 character/digit pass. I tried calling tech support to inquire how i fantastically shot up from an avg of 4 months @ 75gb to 266gb in aug and 202 in september. I was told I needed to be transferred to billing. I asked why, she couldnt give me a real answer except for stumbling over words. I get transferred to billing and it's the arizona number and asks if ur a local caller, and if not to press 2 for otehr numbers, so obviously they are funneling all this new data usage to their arizona call center. However when you continue pressing # for more states in which you might have Cox services, Florida never comes up. Im about to try that tier 2 number i posted in the original post but I didn't know if it was legit. After seeing the data usage values I guess it is.
Im not far from switching to att at this point. this is stupid.

It would be a good idea to do full scans on all your systems Finkle. A system getting zombied/botted can do that kind of bandwidth in no time and you would probably never even notice.

Right now all I'm using is Microsoft Security Essentials. I have it set to do a fullscan @ 3am every day if the PC is left on over night. I've never seen anything malicious from it. Im open to suggestions though and what to look for.
How much data would we be using if we have 2 streaming netflix boxes? My youngest tends to watch cartoons on it throughout the day since we dont have cable in her room and we play 6-7 movies over the weekend during the evenings/late night.
I'm in the process still of reconfiguring my wireless to make sure it's secured still. Reset the factory settings on it and trying to reconfig it is proving to be a pain in the rear right now. Im currently jacking the neighbors unsecured wireless

It is a stupid trend that more companies are going to try to do. ATT has caps, but I do not think has enforced it yet because the usage meters are so bonkers and they cannot even accurately count your bytes. That might of been for VDSL though not ADSL.
Data meters should be regulated for accuracy, which currently they are not. Some routers allow you to install meter monitoring tools. There is also programs for your PC, but that will be limited to just the PC.
