I strongly recommend BenQ monitors, I can't provide any links as I got mine in the UK and I assume you're in the US, but they're top-rate and competitively priced.

I own a Hannspree 24" full HD monitor and I'm very satisfied with it.

The reason Dell is charging that much for their display is because their higher end displays use an IPS Panel. You aren't going to find a more cost effective IPS Panel than what Dell offers.

x1200 is pretty hard to come by anymore unfortunately. Newegg shows 191 monitors at 1920 x 1080 and only 18 at 1920 x 1200. Out of that 18, only 14 are in stock and the lowest price 24" is a $300 samsung. There is the hanns g which I do like, but its 27". Even so, my Asus monitor beats the hanns g by a fair bit on quality (I've owned both of the 27" models).

If I was to buy a Monitor today, it would be the Dell U2412M. Its a great all around display and you can get it on their sales for $300-325 usually.

The next pick would be the HP ZR24W or whatever it is, but that costs a bit more.

Unfortunately, the industry is moving slowly to 1080p native support now, which means that 16:10 is done via upscaling. This year a few games did this....

I read that Windows 8 will not do 1920x1200 natively and will upscale to that resolution as well.

awesome. well i'm only interested in 1920x1200 atm. i didn't realize there were so many 24s that didn't do that. i would have specified otherwise if i had. i guess i'll just throw down for a dell again.
