Good for cleaning dishes... not so good for cleaning motherboards and graphics cards.

I'll pass on my computer, but I've heard of people using dishwashers for keyboards though.

With the canned air - once you use the can for several seconds it'll become very cold and lose pressure. You can warm the can back up under slightly warm tap water (not hot) to "recharge" it. Just make sure not to get the nozzle/straw bit wet. Dry the can off and go back to blowing out the dust bunnies. You may want to clean your computer outside or in a porch area as the dust can be pretty bad.
This. I've blown out my computer inside a couple times and really got the wife pissed at all the dust that instantly goes flying around. I really want to buy one of those special vacuums (that really isn't a vacuum, it's a BLOWER), and will probably get one very soon as we're on our last can of compressed air. [face-fingers-crossed]
On a serious note though, you should perform regular cleaning on the insides of your computer and you should ground yourself to avoid static electricity damage and be very careful of all the sharp corners and such. Dust may be hard to clean, but drops of blood on the motherboard are *much* harder to clean.

I use an air compressor either on the porch or in the garage.
Since most people probably don't own an air compressor... canned air is fine. Still, do it outside on the porch or somewhere that you don't mind dust and furballs flying all over. Only takes a few seconds really, that compressed air gets it done. Focus on blowing out those heatsink fin areas particularly.
I wouldn't go near the inside of your computer with anything that is "damp". Not only could you short something out directly, but you could cause corrosion that would damage later.

^ I'd be careful with an air compressor. They can spit out a lot of moisture.

i think i will buy that electric duster then. i wanted to avoid canned air because of the price and getting dust all over the room i use it in. the duster will pay for itself after awhile. its freezing outside so i don't think i can bear doing it on the porch. maybe the garage...its already dirty.
i used those pledge moist wipes on my old computer a dozen times without incident even on the parts like graphic card, etc. maybe i just got lucky...but i shouldn't risk it on my uber new computer.

I stick my vacuum near the bottom of the case then use canned air. (The vacuum is just to collect the dust the can frees up, I'm not sticking it in there, just sucking up the clouds.
I do vaccuum up the outside vents etc.
