I stumbled upon this website while doing some browsing regarding my recent internet issues. This site has forums for each of the major ISPs where supposedly you can directly communicate with employees of your ISP. My ISP is Charter so I was looking into the Charter Direct forum.

Here's my problem:
1) Neither myself nor my brother have ever heard of this website
2) They ask for some personal information such as name, phone number, address, and your modem MAC address

My first thought was great! I can finally speak to someone knowledgable who actually works for Charter. Have any of you utilized this site before/know about it? Could be a really stupid question, but I just don't know much when it comes to this stuff, and wanted to be safe..

*edit* Suppose I should've read the useful links thread sticky, the site is listed in there. Would still really appreciate some input from anyone.

DSPreports has been around forever. It's one of the most legit sites out there.

Yeah, I've worked with Cox reps through the DSL forums before. They asked for my MAC address to look up my issue, had no issues.

Just don't give them any passwords or credit card numbers and you should be okay.

DSLReports is a good site. I believe they also go by the name Broadbandreports or atleast used to.

I've dealt with a couple Verizon direct guys over there that fixed my problem quicker than trying to juggle through their phone system at the time.

Can't say how good the other direct company forums are though.

They have forums there which are open and some which are closed to only workers at various ISPs. Those threads are clearly listed. Direct support or something. Great site.
