Whenever I have DL a game off steam, never found it slow. I usually max out at 5 or 6MB/s. Origins on the other hand was pathetic.

Sorry, I didn't mean downloads are slow. Also I probably should clarify I don't dislike Steam, I like the service quite a bit. I just wish the client was less bloated. It is pretty slow at loading my games library or loading the market section sometimes. Also wish I could manage where my games are installed (without me having to manually create symbolic links).

Also I buy all my books and music through Amazon, many of my electronics purchases are done through Amazon. So I'm already waist deep in the Amazon eco system, figure I might consider buying my games here more now. At least when the prices are mostly equal. I'll still go where the sale is (and for Origin it has to be a REALLY good sale, haha).

Though I must say, the Amazon download was damn quick. I didn't pay attention to it, but it seemed like I had the 10GB download in no time once the purchased was approved (which was not instant like Steam is).

I say this as I look at the copy of the original (well, enhanced edition) that is still unopened...

You flat out have deprived yourself of probably the best PC exclusive RPG franchise to come out in the last 5 years. BUY IT. PLAY THE FIRST ONE. /smack.

sheesh i'm on comcast, on their upgraded internet tier, in chicago, and max out at about 2.3ish MB/s, until i use up their 'speedburst' or whatever crap (maybe 20-30MB?), and then it's down to about 1.something MB/s for the duration of the download. wish i could get that kinda speed!

As I recall, I had it installed, played a bit, and got stuck. Some mobs wouldn't spawn, effectively halting my progress. I got frustrated and uninstalled.

I bought Space Marine, 7gb download and then it installed to Steam.

Steamworks games require steam. Civ5 will do the same thing, even if you go buy it at best buy.

You prob have the 20Mb/s service, and 20 / 8 = 2.5. In order to download at 6MB/s, he needs a 50Mb/s service which is just way too damn expensive for me ($115 a month through Comcast). I just let games download overnight.

Steam client is pretty dang bloated these days. Since it isn't much more than a glorified website, I often wonder how much of it is DRM type software.
