I don't think most of the "classic" sci fi we look to for cautionary parables on the subject capture the depth of depravity that could come from this stuff.

We could totally control squirrels, but why would we want to?
In 100 years we will have advancements in technology as well as genetic engineering. Those who keep up will work/trade/play with other people who keep up. Those who do not keep up won't be dominated or controlled. They will merely be left behind as irrelevant.
