Mine is only 2 years and 4 months. Doesn't seem interested at all. Just out of curiosity when were yours done by and how did you get them into it?

In general you should expect children to be completely potty trained according to the following break down:

Religious kids about 10-12
Non-Religious about 5-7

Good Luck!

Boy or girl?

It makes a big difference.

Girls usually potty train when they're 2-3. Boys take longer and usually aren't potty trained until they are 3 or 4.

My oldest was potty trained when he was 3 almost 4. He's on the autism spectrum so we weren't sure when he would catch on and for the longest time it seemed like he'd never get it. Then one day he got up, walked calmly to the bathroom and took a crap. Since then he's used the toilet.

The youngest just turned 2 and we're going to start with him soon, but I'm not expecting anything. Just want to introduce him to the idea.

The first step is to get them to tell you when they go. Also, looks for signs that they need to go. Mine would stand still and then shudder a little when he would pee, and he would try to sneak off to his room when he needed to poop.

Stick them on the potty and give them a reward regardless if they go or not. If they do go give them an extra special reward. Also, record it on a little chart they can see so they see how well they've done. We used stickers and when he would go we'd let him pick a sticker and put in on the chart next do the day that he went on.

Never punish them for having an accident though. That will make them want to hide it from you, but it won't increase their likelihood of using it.

If they don't seem to know what to do with the potty when they poop put it into the toilet in front of them so they see where it goes.

All depends on the child.

If you try to force it, it will only take longer.

The oldest girl and boy will probably be potty trained around the same time then.

Don't make a big deal out of it. It will stress them out, and could possibly make them try to hold it which can lead to some problems. Especially if they become constipated.

To answer your question though, my son was potty trained by age 3.

He's had only two night time accidents, both while he was still potty training.

My 2 and a half y/o daughter uses the toilet occasionally.
