I always show up at least 1 hour late for any social function. I hate being one of the early arrivers.

Why, when these asshats KNOW you have a time they have committed to, do they screw you around ?

I don't like to be late or early.

The only places I can think I will show up early for is an auction or the airport.

In general, if you are consistently late this is telling the other person you don't care about their time. Even I can be late though and I'm a compulsive punctual.

This is probably a faux paus however I noticed something this last week.

My maternal grandmother passed away and we held the wake and funeral.

My mother was severely late to both. We had to wait to start the funeral for her to finally get there.

I love my mother but how can you be late to your own mothers funeral?

Not sure why people do it.
