I don't see why that is surprising to anyone. RWNs are mostly hardcore "for me but not for thee"ers and when you throw nationalism into the mix of course they're going to boo someone saying we should treat other nations the way we'd like to be treated.
Bullies almost never respond to "don't bully people because you wouldn't like to be bullied yourself." Well, they do respond, but the response is a kick in the nuts.

"Christians" tend to believe that you should only be nice to other "christians". Everyone else is a damn heretic and deserves to be burned or tossed to the lions, and the world would be a better place if we did that really soon and stuff. 
Pretty interesting how similar their world view is to people they hate for not being just like them.

It's not just Christians. This is why Jesus teaches us not to judge. It is because judgment turns in on our selves and the transformation begins. We become our own harshest critics and we tend to unload this misery on everyone around us. This phenomena is a paradox. Not judging is a form of judging. There is a sweet spot which can be cultivated with practice. But this sweet spot is is in perpetual motion. Just go with the flow. Let go of judgment when you can.

I basically agree with booing the golden rule in that context. Jesus was talking about interpersonal relations. Not relations between the US and Iran.
