I just can't see how you can teach creationism in a public school. Separation of church and state. Unless Aliens a created us.

It's easy. You don't call it creationism, you call it creation science.

The is an undeniable ugly side to American history, and white people played the biggest parts in that ugly side.

To pretend that didn't happen isn't being honest, but trying to hold current generations accountable for it won't help anything either.

It should be taught, and given context with today's world. White Americans aren't the devil, but they certainly did some shitty things in the past.

People with heritages that were affected by those actions deserve to be told the truth about them.

Not commenting on the Tempest banning but otherwise this is good. The blatant anti-white racism was off the charts there. They have it exactly right for treating individuals as individuals. If you want to teach your racist crap at home, that is your racist business.

I know rite? May as well not even teach that black people were enslaved in the past cause all it'll do is stoke resentment!

I agree with Arizona on this one and with almost all of the controversial issues Gov Jan Brewer faced in the last year or so.

A. A school district or charter school in this state shall not include in its program of instruction any courses or classes that include any of the following:

1. Promote the overthrow of the United States government.

2. Promote resentment toward a race or class of people.

3. Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group.

4. Advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.

Explain to me what is wrong with the above

Having said all this what is wrong with the tempest
Perhaps Fahrenheit 451 should be required reading

That language can be used to shut down almost anything. You could use it to shut down teaching that slavery happened because it is likely to produce resentment by descedents of slaves against the descendants of slave owners.

"The list also includes all textbooks that deal with Mexican-American history..."

No real reason to text Mexican-American history, right? That stuff is just archaic and useless in modern society.

By those standards....you can't teach anything.

You couldn't teach WWII history, because if you mentioned concentration camps you would be promoting resentment towards Germans.

You couldn't teach about American music and the influence of Jazz because all those black people did that jazz stuff and that would be promoting them over white people and their awesome bluegrass music.

Yeah, moronic examples taken to the extreme....but do you really think people stupid enough to make a law like that aren't moronic enough to come up with complaints similar to them?

Arizona is trying to take the title of most idiotic mouth breathers in one place away from Florida.
