the problem is the yellow/red card system

It's not really. The problem is that you don't GET a card for blowing things out of proportion.

Pepe should have been given a yellow for simulation when he flopped holding the right side of his face and the replay shows Fabregas' hand didn't even come within a foot of his face at all. Instead he gets no punishment at all.

Also you do not see it every game. What you see every game is not people flopping. When you get kicked it hurts and falling to the ground is not unreasonable especially when you have to do something to show the ref you've actually been fouled.

What is the bane of the game is people like Pepe who make something out of nothing. I have no trouble with someone falling down holding their leg when they get kicked. But when the replay shows they didn't even get touched that should be an automatic yellow or even a red.

i only said that because it seems to me that the yellow/red penalties are very harsh and could put you down a man pretty quickly

that sounds like incentive to flop to me

You have to have the cards though. They put them in because people's legs were getting broken regularly.

It does create an incentive to flop but we have video replay and while I don't support stopping the game there is no reason not to have one of the assistants looking at the replay before the decision is made. And there is DOUBLY no reason not to have someone look at it AFTER the fact and come back and book people for simulation.

I can see the argument for no video replay during the game but I cannot see the argument for not reviewing things afterward and issuing cards after the fact when the video evidence is clear. In fact they do do that for intentional violence the referee doesn't spot. There's no reason they also couldn't do it for other stuff.

If there aren't bones sticking out, just keep playing.

If there are bones sticking out, get taped up and get back in the game.

Floppers do indeed suck. I don't pay attention to soccer, but I get the same crap in basketball. In both cases, the solution seems to be better use of instant replay and calling fouls (or cards or whatever) for flopping.

I dunno soccer. If it is already in the rules, then the floppers suck less than the refs do.
