I wonder what was the break-through adaptation that allowed the propagation of multi-celled life forms. I'm sure multi-celled organisms were created a million times and failed before one finally stuck. How was that first survivor different?

Single celled organisms struggled sometimes as single celled organisms so one day a cell was born that was able to overcome that struggle and become stronger

Struggle is nature's way of strengthening itself. Without struggle there's nothing in front of something or someone that lets them know they need to improve themself in some way

Where did those first single cell organisms come from? I mean, wasn't the planet like REALLY hot after the "big bang" or whatever caused earth to form?

Maybe I'm missing something and the earth was formed from dust that collected or something.

If it WAS really hot on Earth I'd like to know the following:

1. If it was that hot, how did these single celled organisms live in an environment that would be devoid of water? I mean, were they lava bacteria or something?

2. If the earth cooled off over time while they were here, wouldn't they all have died off from a lack of a suitable environment? I mean, things that are supposed to live in 80 gajillion degrees shouldn't like 90 degrees or something.

3. Maybe they came along later, after the cooling. How did they get here? I mean, did they ride in on a meteor? Don't THOSE get kind of warm? (again, above that 90 degree thing)

4. Did they just sit around, eating nothing and not propagating until water "formed"?

C'mon, these are some tricky questions*

Fun fact: If you built a time machine and took one of early humans from early post-ice age era to 2012, they'd most likely suffocate

My understanding of it is that early Earth was too hot for life as we know it to form. But after it cooled off enough, there was a lot of materials lying around in the water which gradually started to coalesce together into proteins and later the early building blocks for life. And that stuff gradually formed DNA, which is how life managed to survive.

What I'd find more intriguing is how viruses came to be and evolved, since they can't reproduce on their own (hence why they hijack cells in order to create more viruses). It almost seems like a step backwards in evolution, some organism must've got stuck inside a cell and somehow manipulated it or something like that.

Btw, here's some general info in case you're interested friar. If you have cable, the Science channel often has shows that talk about how the Earth was formed and how life may have evolved. I find it much more fascinating than "God did it" (which I'm sure He did, but is letting us find out how on our own).

And holy cow at the current hypothesis on how the moon was created: a Mars-sized planet collided with Earth, and the remaining fragments that didn't get absorbed into the Earth formed it gradually. If I could look through time that would definitely be one thing I'd want to see.

It's just about time to reset the clock, return to single-cell dominance, and start again.

First all cells were libertarian, then they became tribal, then feudal, then they formed empires which fell when asteroid hit the earth and since then most predominant cells have formed neoliberal structures that are based on heavy socialist-like caste system where everyone shares the benefits but not the negatives.
