The top 10% are extremely tough to lie to though.
This is the problem with democracy. You can build your entire political career on lies. Some people will see through it, but it doesn't matter. There's not a damn thing they can do about it because the voting majority can't tell. Being a good liar is far more useful for a politician than being a good leader.

A person is tough to lie to and will see through your deception. People, on the other hand, are incredibly easy to lie to. We have built in Societal defensive mechanisms to ensure that this is the case.
