It's the 80's. If the CIA doesn't get into it, maybe the Russians would have. In an odd way it is in the intrest of the CIA and national security to keep control over this. It is happenening in our own back yard. It's money that is unaccounted for and can be used to fund a variety of secret programs. Either way the drugs will flow no metter who controls it. And from the drug trade money will come influance and power. Just my 2 cents.

Well to be fair to the tinfoil crowd, I had heard a report from long ago that some enemy of the US had toyed with the idea of spiking drug shipments with poisons.
The cartels basically told the shadowy bad guys to gtfo and leave their cash cow alone.
However yes, the CIA has been involved with drug trade to this country since the late 80's.
