Watching the interview, I had a disturbing thought: Has Newt Gingrich become self-aware?
I've never heard a better explanation for the former speaker's ability to cloud conservatives' minds. How, after all, did a man who's the very model of a Beltway-consensus influence-peddler convince Tea Party voters he represents "real change"? It's the "forcefulness," stupid!
Unfortunately, what's going on here is not "very deep." Gingrich's rise represents the triumph of rhetorical style over substance. In a way, it's the ultimate tribute to Barack Obama.

The people want someone who represents them, and right now the people are pissed.
Completely remove the politics and ideology, and Newt has many of the things Obama lacks. They'd miss the president when he was gone though, rest assured.

Newt looks like a little boy so pleased with himself. Like he's showing off awesome loot and doesn't realize stealing is wrong or the cops are watching.

Obama is the epitome of style over substance.
Gingrich has plenty of substance, but it is mostly bad.
Gingrich's rise is the triumph of stupidity due to "AnyoneButRomney" syndrome.
