I worked with families of children who died from cancer and related blood disorders. Bereavement can be extremely threatening to the health and welfare of those who experienced a profound loss. Many of those families were referred out to therapy, and some of those parents were medicated. Thank God they were.
PS As far as I recall, the DSM code for Bereavement is V62.82 Bereavement with r/o 's to follow. Bereavement is neither an illness nor a new designation.
