On the one hand, the official government of Israel and the usual U.S. warmongers, unfortunately including a lot of so-called liberals, are calling for an invasion or, at least, a massive bombing of Iran. Response from a lot of Americans? Well, hey, sounds good to me!
On the other hand, in response to this, an Iran pundit calls for an attack on Israel. Response? OMG!!! Iran is being threatening!!!
The folks in charge, in Iran, are not good people. No argument there. But, Israel has been claiming that Iran is a year or two away from a nuclear weapon for well over a decade. We have observers in Iran. Iran is not completely cooperative with them, but, they have access enough to know that Iran is still many years away from being able to produce even one bomb. And that would only be possible if Iran threw all the observers out.
Yes, we really, really need to keep a close eye on Iran's nuclear program, but, yes, we ARE keeping a close eye on Iran's nuclear program. We know Iran's output down to a gram or two. We know the purity of the output. We know that, if Iran kicks every observer out and focuses on producing bomb grade material, they are still years away from actually having enough material to produce even one bomb.
Iran's leaders are authoritarian, religious fanatics. Kind of like the folks right wingers want to be in charge in the U.S. But, Iran, itself, is one of the most liberal, educated, westernized societies in the Middle-East. Our best plan would be to connect with the people of Iran while still keeping a tight rein on the government of Iran.
Demonizing Iran as a whole, which the right loves to do, is completely counter productive. And, yes, Obama is leaning towards that right wing attitude. Yet another reason why conservatives should vote for Obama, while liberals should keep on criticizing him.
