Mecca Ca that is, I'm passing through on my way to Niland, my daughter is going to a geology camp there.

She got interested in geology because her school has a lapidary art class, for my last birthday her mother bought a ring setting and she made a banded obsidian stone for it.

If she really is interested in geology, I suggest getting her started early with some of the national organizations:
http://www.geosociety.org/
http://www.aipg.org/
They both offer a lot of camps, scholarships, field trips and so forth for highschool students who are considering it for a major.
