A human mind knows what is going on and what to expect. I don't know that a cat's does. I would suspect that the little thing was very frightened when this happened.
I don't think tormenting animals is funny. I do think that people who think it's funny to torment animals are funny though. Not funny ha ha, funny as in there is something wrong with them.

I actually have no idea if there was a treat in the box. For all I know the cat does that 50 times a day because he likes it.
