Is moving forward.

The construction of two new nuclear reactors won federal approval today, making them the first to be built in the U.S. in the decades since the partial meltdown at Three Mile Island in 1979.

The U.S. Nuclear and Regulatory Commission gave the go-ahead to Southern Company of Atlanta to add two reactors to its existing pair at the Vogtle Plant in Waynesboro, Ga.
clicky

Was one of the reasons McCain got my vote. We desperately need energy upgrades across the country. The Dem White house looks pretty efficient implementing RWN policy.

So much for all that green energy talk.

Nuclear is the best solution available for energy consumption that does not increase carbon emissions and has a smaller environmental footprint than wind and hydro.

I mostly agree, though i think you'd have to define "environmental footprint" very narrowly. All that spent fuel shit has to be stored somewhere for eleventy gozillion years.

I don't actually know how much volume spent nuclear fuel takes up? Sticking it in a cave somewhere seems to be the solution, which is "a smaller environmental footprint" than acres of wind farms.

How about we just store it someplace safe until we figure out how to cheaply blast it into space?

Both Obama and McCain supported Nuclear energy on the campaign trail.

McCain was more enthusiastic, but they both supported it.

I dont have a real problem with nuclear energy. Economically its just not a good investment without massive gov't subsidies.....and private companies arent lining up to build them. Some people object to government throwing money at wind/solar while clamoring for more money to be thrown at nuclear.

Throw money at both. Energy is really important.
